I am---

I am---
by Dill Pickle

I am a,
am a smart,
a smart little,
smart little boy,
little boy who,
boy who can,
who can run,
can run far,
run far away,
far away I,
away I am,
I am a,
am a smart,
a smart little,
smart little boy.

Paragraph Poetry

Today I read a poem from Hand in Hand called Circles by Carl Sandburg. This poem is written in paragraph form. It doesn't necessarily flow the way you think a poem would. I asked the picklets if they could write a poem that is in paragraph form. They each went into a different room and wrote their poems on the same topic.

Gymnastics
by Dill Pickle

Straddle on the P-Bars,
And head stand on the floor,
Kevin says, "Get more height on your swing"
near the high bar,
Do circles on the mushroom,
It's a straight jump on the vault,
And basket on the rings.

Gymnastics
by Sweet Pickle

I tried my kip because
I am a Gymnast, I try
it and don't get it, I
try again and do. I get
it 3 times, but now can Not again.

Life Poem by Sweet

My Life Poem by Sweet Pickle

I am from dust on the wall
And a chair no one sits in
From clutter all around
And Gracie lying on the floor
From Number Three’s basket
I am from home and a couch where daddy eats chips.

I am from a messy home
From school work
And a messy yard
From smells like air
From playing with brother and sleeping on a bed
I am from home.

I am from sweet corn
From the flood of ’08 and farming
From Shawn Johnson
And the Hawkeyes
From pigs galore
I am from home.

I am from 43 presidents
And we speak English
From the liberty bell
From the statue of liberty
And I ‘m proud to be a citizen
I am from home—freedom is great here.

I am from Gaga and Grandpa
From the Czech Republic
And Sokol
From Stul and Oknam
I am from home

I am from living to be 115
From having 4 kids and being happy
From being healthy forever
And living in the country
From being an Olympic gymnast
I am from home!

Life Poem by Dill

My Life Poem by Dill Pickle

I am from the chair,
Near the Couch,
In front of the Coffee table,
On the hard wood floors;
I am from home, the t.v. and playing the wii.

I am from Happiness is felt,
And Voices are known,
And Dogs are barking,
And Toys are played with;
I am from home, where laughter and joy are heard.

I am from Lots of people.
Near Many pigs,
And tones of corn,
And Much loads of soybeans;
I am from home, near Mt Trashmore, I live here,

I am from Sokol Gymnastics,
And Sue the T-Rex,
The pentagon
And the Empire state building;
I am from home, The White house and The Golden gate Bridge.

I am from Ireland,
With Erin go Bragh,
To Zidle,
And Jak se mas;
I am from home, Debry den and the Czech Repulic.

I am from all will prosper,
And Nations will be friends,
And wizards are cool;
I am from home, Iraq will like us
I will have friends.

Life Poems

A life poem requires two things One to be about your life and two for the writer of the poem to be completely honest. The first stanza is about a room you spend time in followed by your heritage, your country, your town etc... You can find full directions at edhelper. It is really a neat poem to write and one that I will treasure forever from my picklets. I thought I would share mine too. :-) The picklets poems will follow in the next two posts.

My Life Poem by Gerkin Pickle

I am from clothes piled in a laundry basket
And sitting on an unmade bed of purple sheets
From dogs laying outside the door
And from an open, unkempt closet
I am from home---life mate snoring, computer humming.

I am from laughing, whooping, hollering
From playing games and riding bikes
From reading books aloud and listening to each other
From supper on the stove and tea sitting in the sun
I am from home—where it smells like spring and cows.

I am from the heartland
From Hawykeye’s and Cyclones
From Adventureland and Sokol
I am from a college area, farms and cities
And a town where we don’t fit in
I am from home—the land of fertile soil

I am from an odd bunch
From a Norwegian farmer and his Irish wife
From a stubborn Beguim with a square head
And a Bohemie who can cook better than anyone I know
From my best friend and a banker-barber
I am from home-- the roots of my being

I am from people helping people
And the Grand Canyon so deep
From Lady Liberty holding her lantern high
And Mount Rushmore watching over us
From freedom the result of bravery
I am from home—land of my ancestors

I am from hard but fun times
From simplified houses and organized lives
From less stressed, easier going situations
And financially sound family times
I am from home—living, loving, learning happily.

What We Did Today

Kind of an odd day. We didn't follow any pattern or rhythm. We just did what we did.

Chip worked on his unit. He is studying Pearl Harbor, a unit he is making himself. More to come on that later.

The other two and I worked together:

We played An Alliteration game inspirited by Thomas Jefferson.

Dill and I worked on the April math Calendar. There really was no working on it, I showed the calendar to Dill and rattled the answers off.

Dill and Sweet saw that I borrowed The Complete Dramitic Works of William Shakespeare The Winter's Tale. Oh boy were they happy, and I am not joking about that. I read that book made for children last week and they loved it so they wanted to watch this. They watched the first and second act while we ate lunch.

Since it is "look for a rainbow day" and National Poetry Month I read The Rainbow by Christina Rossetti aloud. I then dictated the poem to the picklets so they could write it.

We then learned about Life Poetry or list poetry and wrote our own.

We worked on our "Make Something Cool" project.

They played outside.

Dill made an orb necklace, another craft from Wizard Crafts. He also made chocolate mousse for National Chocolate Mousse Day.

Chip sewed a frog change holder from Naruto.
