Last year I missed Mother's Day with my mom. I was with DH's mom, taking care of her after she hurt herself. I missed the day meant for me and mom.
This year mom and I had great plans for a picnic to celebrate "our day". That was cancelled because it just will not warm up.
So, after visiting his mom, my dad brought my mom to see me for Mother's Day! Oh what fun we had. I made a loaf of homemade bread which my mom devoured and did some reminiscing at the same time.
When she was little she and her brothers and sisters lived above their parents hardware store right across from the bakery. While her mom and dad were working she and her siblings would call the bakery and order loaves of bread. They would keep calling back until the bread was done baking. They would then go to the bakery, charge the bread to grandma's account, take it home and devour it. That went on until grandma got the next charge bill and wondered where all the bread went to. She still loves warm, homemade bread with butter and I was so happy I could give that to her for her special day.
I made hot wings for my dad and J to munch on. I also made hobo dinners with both hamburgers and chicken. For dessert we had eggless chocolate cake and ice cream.
We sat in the livingroom and watched the kittens play. The grey one really liked my dad and my mom loved all of them. Grandpa and DH helped the kids set up their trampoline and the kids enjoyed showing off for Grandma and Grandpa.
In all it was such a short time but made my Mother's Day a wonderful one!
