Homeschool Mother's Journal: April 1, 2011

The Homeschool Mother's Journal In my life this week...I was able to stay home one day which made a huge difference! In our homeschool this week...we have pretty much been on spring break. Sweet has worked a couple of days on math and online. This morning was Hardee’s schooling! One of our favorite schooling places! Places we're going and people we're seeing...Grandma and Grandpa’s house. They are finally home from Texas! We have also been to gymnastics and the other usual palces. My favorite thing this week was...was going back to bed and sleeping until 9:00 two mornings this week. Ahhh… What's working/not working for us...I have given this a lot of thought and I really feel the TV/video games are hindering us as functioning human beings as well as a family. Yesterday I had the picklets help me clean the house starting at 2:00pm. By 3:30 they were all whining that they needed a break. With them whining and yelling I completely lost it. I really feel they are addicted. I limited their electronic time to two hours a day and have instructed that shows/movies I feel are inappropriate will no longer be tolerated. Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...Does anyone else start to feel the burn out this time of year? A photo, video, link, or quote to share...First hatch is imminent. It could occur anytime today. (Friday April 1) In case the video link doesn't work go to: http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles.

Oi the video games. I feel your pain. I'm sooo close to boxing them up and doing without, but not there yet. I see NOTHING good about them, than cheap entertainment, but that goes against EVERYTHING I am trying to teach them.

So tough! --sigh--

Pickles, what a fun idea! Although I as confused there for a moment on Hardee's. I wondered what kind of a pickle that was. Then I realized you meant the restaurant. Sorry, no Hardee's where I live, just Carl's Jr. :)

I just wanted to encourage you to stick to your guns with your limits. And when they whine you can tell them my girls only get an hour a day. We're pretty restrictive around here and while the kids don't always appreciate it, they are learning that there are benefits.

You are not alone. I think that I get spring fever more than the kids. I have also been struggling with the TV & video game situation.

I struggle with the educational value of shows vs. those mind numbing shows. If I could pick and choose the channels, life would be better.

As for the video games, we have instituted a NO weekday rule. The children only get to use them for 2 hours on Saturday & Sunday. This has seemed to help my kids.

Sometimes its not fun being the adult who has to set limits! It's our spring break this coming week and I plan on following your lead and sleeping in.
