Meeting Author Bruce Hale

We were lucky enough to meet author Bruce Hale yesterday. This was quite an honor considering how much the kids love Chet Gecko, Private Eye. If your kids haven't read the Chet Gecko series, run to the library and check them out, you won't regret it. They are hilarious!

During his little gig, Bruce told how Chet Gecko came about. He lived in Hawaii and on the way home from work one day there was a gecko on his car. Every time he thought the gecko would fall off it would just ride with the wind. All of a sudden he had the idea and Chet Gecko, Private Eye was born.

The highlight of the session was when he taught us to draw cartoon characters. AND of course when we got home what do you think the kidlets did? I guess you will have to wait until the next post to find out. ;-)

It was great to meet him. He has been very influential at instilling the love of reading in my children. And for that, he will have my unending gratitude!

Bruce Hale writing the "secret code". He later explained how to decode it.

Bruce telling his life story.

Signing an autograph for J, my aspiring author. He was too nervous to ask any questions but is constructing a letter to send him.

Check out his website BruceHale.com to learn more about the books he has authored. You will also find a how to section for writing stories and drawing Chet. And don't forget to check out the cool detective tips, a must see for all detectives to be.
